Covid-19 Disaster Relief Payments & Government Grants for Individuals & Small Business

On the 20th of July, the South Australian Government announced yet another lockdown for a period of 7 days. For both business owners and employees, this will have a financial impact due to certain industries being forced to close their doors.

What does this mean for Individuals & Small Businesses?

Individuals:

For South Australian Residents, Individuals who have lost between 8 – 20 hours of work will be eligible for a $375-a-week Covid-19 Disaster Payment, with Individuals who have lost 20 hours, or more are entitled to receive $600-a-week during the period of the lockdown. This has been made available for Individuals state-wide.

South Australians who are forced to self-isolate are also eligible for one lump-sum payment of $1,500 to support and replace any loss of income.

Small Business:

The State Government has also announced that it will provide cash grants of $3,000 for small to medium-sized businesses that have been impacted by the lockdown and cash grants of $1,000 will be made available for sole traders.

What are the Eligibility Criteria for Individuals & Small Businesses?

Individuals:

  • You are an Australian Resident or hold a Visa that gives you the right to work in Australia

  • You are 17 years old or older

  • You are not getting any Income Support Payments, ABSTUDY Living Allowance, Dad and Partner Pay or Parental Leave Pay

  • You are not getting the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment, a State or Territory Pandemic Payment or a State small business payment for the same period

  • You have lost income and don’t have any appropriate paid leave entitlements

Small Business:

  • Businesses are eligible for payments if they have a payroll of less than $10 million, with an annual turnover of $75,000 or more in 2020-21 or 2019-20

  • They must prove that their turnover will be reduced by at least 30 percent over the seven-day lockdown from July 20

  • They must also be located in South Australia, employ South Australians and have a valid Australian Business Number

Please Note:

  • Larger businesses will not be eligible to receive any funding support

  • Regional SA are not eligible for the federal grants, even though they are locked down, they were not declared a “COVID-19 hotspot”

  • Businesses will only be eligible for state grants at this stage

How to Apply:

Individuals:
For those Individuals affected, you can apply for payments through the myGov website as of Wednesday, 28th July 2021 and payments will be processed as quickly as possible. Click here to apply
